Province Declares Gonorrhea Outbreak

New Brunswick has declared a provincial outbreak of gonorrhea and launched an ad campaign after the number of cases nearly doubled, partly because of the growing popularity of dating apps and anonymous, unprotected sexual encounters.

Twenty cases of the sexually transmitted disease were reported across the province between January and March, the province's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Jennifer Russell, said during a news conference on Friday.

The provincial average during that same period over the past five years was 12.

Last year, a total of 96 cases were reported provincewide, compared to the annual average over the previous five years of 54.

"So that's a big increase" in a short time, said Russell.

The majority of the cases are aged 20 to 39 and they're spread evenly across the province.

"We don't really want to judge, we just want to educate people," said Russell.

If "you're engaging in this type of behaviour, these are the risks that go along with it and here are the things you can do to protect yourself" and your partners.

Public health launched an ad campaign Friday about the outbreak to raise awareness and to remind New Brunswickers about the importance of practising safe sex — whether it's vaginal, oral or anal.

The campaign, which runs until May 15, is targeting 18 dating sites and app platforms, as well as social media, including Facebook and Instagram, officials said.

Russell is also urging those who are having unprotected sex to get tested every three months because they may have been infected, even if they're not exhibiting any symptoms.

"It's important for New Brunswickers to know that the majority of the time sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhea, do not show symptoms, any signs.

"And with the rise of hookup culture and online dating apps, sexually transmitted diseases are easily spread from one person to another," but more difficult for public health to track and treat.

Partners can be difficult to trace
Sexually transmitted diseases, sometimes called infections, are caused by a bacteria, virus or parasite passed from one person to another through unprotected sexual contact.

It's not unusual for individuals who have a sexually transmitted infection, such as gonorrhea, HIV, syphilis and chlamydia, to have more than one infection at the same time, she said.

A urine or swab test can detect the infections, which can be treated with antibiotics.

If left untreated, sexually transmitted diseases can have lasting effects on a person's health and cause infertility, she said.

"Social media tools enable people to communicate quickly to arrange anonymous sexual encounters, resulting in increased difficulty in tracking sexually transmitted infections," Russell said.

"When people don't know their sexual partners' identities, it is difficult to contact those partners for followup testing and treatment."

How Many Chipmunks Are There? Remember the Band The 'Asexuals'?

OK, you all have been great, so I won't torture you with a video today.

So, if you've been following the story since this end of Winter/Spring 2019, you know that I've debated with myself over just how many chipmunks I was encountering. First 1, then 2, then 1, then possibly 3, then back to 2 and then down to 1 chipmunk....

I'm now positive there are two. The one out back I had commented that it seemed quite undernourished and tiny, while the one on my steps, in the driveway is bigger, brave and trusting.

After hanging with Scott and Andrea I came home and decided to go out back. I had not run into the one out front that I called 'Lil Guy' (although I've caught myself calling him 'Buddy' and also, last evening's video confirmed he's male.. No nipples everywhere!), he never showed, so I popped my head around back, fuck it's a disaster, with the snow going, it's even worse, BUT, I did find out that over Al Hovey's place two doors down that their yard is destroyed too. Scott and Andrreas didn't look too bad... Anyhoo! So there, over by that hole I had found in the Winter, was this cute little chipmunk.and it's a she and I know it's much smaller than 'Lil Guy'. I felt kinda bad, see, this one out front, this began by me seeing him come from along front of the house and towards my steps.. So at first I thought it was a new chipmunk, because it was bigger, then it dawned on me that it might be the one from out back coming around... And then, well 'Lil Guy' is out there just about every time I step outside, so I just figured that the one from out back had 'moved' it's den or made an addition or stash house over in the field.. But now I feel I've been neglecting the poor one out back haha and really I can't become to emotionally invested in these creatures, because they can be gone any day due to many dangers for them. But they are cute rodents lol.


While labeled as a Hardcore Punk band from Beaconsfield, their later material was more more melodic and 'Pop' sounding that Hardcore Punk. Like today we'd call this Alt-Rock, Post Punk, but hopefully to new ears, it'll sound as great as it do for me when I first heard.

I saw them play in Fredericton a few times and even put the boys up on the floor of the apartment that former Wasteland Zombies guitarist Rich O'Neil rented together.

I didn't like a lot of more popular Canaidnan Rock, Pop-Punk groups popular through the mid to late 80's and in the early 1990's.
I was a huge Tragically Hip fan, which I know is blasphemy to say as a Canadian, but it's true. They do have a few songs I do really love and I did own 'Fully Completely', mostly for the songs, 'Courage' 'Looking For A Place to Happen', Hundreth Meridian, Locked In The Trunk of a Car and they had a few other songs I did like. But like with World Rock, I preferred the maybe up and coming and definitely new bands.

Dang It You Kids! That Black Metal Music!

So back in the 1980's in Norway, there emerged a Heavy Metal scene, that would eventually spark a whole new genre in Heavy Metal, Norwegian Black Metal.
I won't go into it's full history, suffice to say that in the late 1980's there was a slew of church burnings around Norway. In the end it would turn at that members of the Black Metal scene had formed an ideology, some parts of it DID break off into neo nazi-eque like groups, but for the most part these teens saw christianity as an invader that had overstayed it's welcome. Learning about their ancient past and their ancient gods and how in tune they had once been to the planet and nature and then to have that way of life completely decimated by the christians, to have their sacred mounds 'renovated' with and I do mean this, with absolutely stunning christian churches and killing men, women and children.. Just taking over and they wanted to take back their heritage so as "revenge" for their people, they began to burn down these churches.

Now SOME of the kids were Satanists, but for the most part the 'satanic imagery' was used more as a scare tactic than a serious belief system for this.

Recently a film called 'Lords of Chaos' came out, starring Macaulay Culkin's brother Rory, it looked at one of the most shocking stories to come out of the birth of this Norwegian Black Metal scene.

So not that any 'fan' of Black Metal or Norwegian Black Metal wouldn't know this birth story, one of a band called Mayhem and their twisted path to infamy, which is alleged to include being part and parcel to this string of church burnings back in the day...

So just months after the release of this film, this happens in the US:

Black Metal Fan Charged In Connection With String Of Fires At Churches In Louisiana

According to ABC News, a 21-year-old man who had ties to the black metal scene, has been arrested in connection to three fires at black churches in Louisiana.

Holden Matthews is suspected of setting the fires over a span of 10 days. He is being held in St. Landry Parrish jail on three counts of simple arson of a religious building.

Louisiana State Fire Marshal H. "Butch" Browning told ABC News that "we're still vetting several motives," but added that they have found that Matthews had ties to "black metal and its association and history with church burnings in other parts of the world."

Matthews was arrested after investigators found a gas can at the scene of one of the fires and traced it back to a local Walmart and linked it to Matthews's credit card.


According to The Daily Beast, a Facebook page that appeared to belong to Matthews showed he was active in pagan and black metal pages, and that he commented on two memes about far-right former neo-Nazi metal musician Varg Vikernes, who served 15 years in prison for killing a fellow metal musician and burning churches in Norway. Matthews was also the lead singer for a band called VODKA VULTURES, according to CBS News.

Three churches suffered devastating fires: St. Mary Baptist Church on March 26, Greater Union Baptist on April 2, and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on April 4. All three churches are historically black and in the St. Landry Parish, which is nearly 42 percent black.

And in the flavor of the blog, here's some Norwegian Black Metal Gaahls WYRD -'Gaahl' is the doods name...

And to be honest, that's not a 'true' representation of 'Norwegian Black Metal', YES, it is Norwegian, but most band's singer's don't sing 'clean' like that.... They usually 'sing' like this:

'Mayhem' is said to be the infant of Norwegian Black Metal.... That guy in the YouTube thumbnail? That WAS their singer... I say 'was' because, he blew his head off with a shotgun and then his guitarist, who found his body, instead of calling the EMT's or cops, went and got a camera and took photos of his 'dead' singer, posing the rifle and a knife in the photo... Oh, did I mention before blowing his head off, he had managed to slit his own wrists.. Both of them.....

Anyhow, one of the photo's became the band's album cover oh, what's that you ask? What was the 'singer's' name?...... 'DEAD' - That was the name this kid adopted for his stage name.

Just want to say that as much as I dislike christianity and religions, I do NOT condone the vandalism or burning of any religious grounds or structures. \EVEN if, other religions have destroyed previous religions sacred areas or relics or wiped out their religion completely.

I DO appreciate history and art. It's a tough one... Anyhow, don't wreck shit in the name of our music genre, it's fucking dumb.

I got some great chipmunk footage, there is definitely two. I'm thinking my fearless guy out front MAY be 'Buddy' or possibly, maybe 'Chippy' the original 'father' of the broods around our place.

I thought this one that comes to the steps had a wound on it's head, but today, no wound, so maybe there's 3 lol I don't know..
